How to become a Professor in Germany (DHV)

Cooperation offer of the Deutscher Hochschulverband (DHV)

This seminar addresses young scientists who are considering a career as a professor at a German university or are already in the middle of an application process for a professorship in Germany. It will give the participants an overview of the career paths to a professorship, covering the legal requirements, the appointment procedure and the legal status of a professor.
The seminar also addresses how to approach the search for relevant job advertisements, how to prepare the written application documents and how to make a good impression during the further steps in the selection process.
In the second part of the seminar, the participants will receive an overview of the next steps for the successful candidates. This includes the appointment negotiations with German universities, the legal framework and the strategic preparation for those negotiations.

No. Human Resources Development holds a certain contingent for junior research group leaders and (junior/tenure-track) professors to attend DHV events. You can attend all DHV events that we have listed on our pages. This does not include other DHV events. You are of course welcome to book these individually with the DHV at your own expense.

Yes. If an event is fully booked, we will put you on the waiting list. You may then move up the list if a space becomes free with enough time still to go before the event starts.

Only some of the rooms in the “Alte Sternwarte” have barrier-free access. Should you need help getting in, please get in touch with your named contact in good time so that we can give you the support you need on the day of the event.

If you need childcare during the event, please contact the Office of Family Services at the University of Bonn.

The further training offers provided by Human Resource Development at the University of Bonn are only open to people who have signed a work contract with the University, are enrolled as a doctoral student, are conducting research on behalf of the University or are an associated member of a research consortium.

You will usually be given a certificate at all our events that confirms your attendance at the event and its content.

We are also currently developing a range of certificates for three “career tracks”:  “Research,” “Research Management,” and “Business and Organizations.” More information will shortly be provided on the web page for “Postdoc plus".

If the event currently being displayed counts as credit toward one of the three “tracks,” this will be indicated accordingly.

There is currently no certificate as part of the yourTRACK program.
