In particular, participants will

  • assess how they are currently performing on all four energy dimensions,
  • recognize symptoms of stress and identify key areas of development in their energy management,
  • be introduced to seven different techniques to be readily applied in everyday life in order to increase focus in performance situations, regenerate quickly and prepare for a relaxing sleep at night,
  • plan new habits that can help them achieve the targeted change.

Course Description

As you progress through your career as a young researcher, you might experience increasing demands on your energy and time. You might feel captive to a seemingly overwhelming flow of projects, emails, meetings that all call for their immediate attention, which frequently results in unrealistic expectations of what can be achieved in a day. Eventually, even high performers struggle to deliver and end up stressed or depleted until, inevitably, their performance will drop. In light of such experiences sometimes also your self-confidence and motivation may suffer. Then it is important, to rebound quickly. The workshop is aimed at doctoral students and postdocs who face a variety of demands, encounter stressful challenges, yet wish to maintain their mental wellbeing and strengths in the long run.

This workshop will likely transform the way you view self-management: instead of managing time you will start managing your energy in order to achieve and maintain high productivity in face of challenges. In addition, it will help you to prepare for high-pressure situations, to tailor your energy and presence to the required optimum, as well as to effectively unwind and deeply relax after a period of demanding engagement.

Using proven techniques from world-class athletes and high-performance teams, you will gain an understanding and initial practical experience of the foundations, concepts and techniques that allow them to effectively regulate their energy household.
