Participation in Academic Online Events

To further promote progress in the doctoral studies as well as network development, the University of Bonn supports the participation of their doctoral candidates in academic online events. Participation fees for academic online events (eg. workshops, seminars, symposiums, conferences) between € 150 and € 1.500.

Deadlines

You may submit your application anytime. A review of submitted application takes place quarterly at the following dates:

January 15, April 15, July 15 and October 15.

Funding Conditions

The following costs can be covered:

  • Participation fees for academic online events (eg. workshops, seminars, symposiums, conferences) between €150 and €1,500.

Non-academic online events, such as personal development courses, are not eligible under this funding line. The University of Bonn offers a non-academic qualification program Doctorate Plus, open to all doctoral candidates of the university.

Please note that we generally only accept invoices that are made out to the University of Bonn as the invoice recipient:

Doctoral candidates of the University of Bonn who have not yet completed their doctoral studies with the oral doctoral examination. Please note that successful candidates are not eligible to apply for this funding line within the same year.

  • Relevance to the progress of the doctoral thesis and/or the development of the candidate’s network, 
  • Academic CV of the doctoral candidate,
  • Active participation of the applicant in the event, adequate to its format.

The allocation of funding to doctoral candidates of the University of Bonn is decided by an interdisciplinary selection committee of young scholars. The Bonn Graduate Center supports the members of the committee in an advisory capacity. The members are:

Prof. Dr. Sabine FeistProf. Dr. Andreas Schlitzer and Prof. Dr. Michael Schindelegger.

The following documents should be attached to the application:

  • Academic CV of the applicant,
  • Letter of support signed by the supervisor (see here for template),
  • Written confirmation of admission as a doctoral candidate from the faculty.

The review of the applications normally takes four to six weeks from the deadline. Please refrain from any inquiries in this regard during this period of time.
