    Leistungsschein
    (a) Attendance
Regular attendance is required and any absence must be explained. Students absent for more than two classes will not be entitled to receive a Schein unless a medical cert is produced to explain further absences.

    (b) Group presentation (25%) & playing the role of the critic
The presentation is worth 25% of the total mark. However, students who do not receive at least a pass in the end of term examination will not be awarded a Leistungsschein for the course irrespective of the presentation mark.

    (c) End of term examination (75%)

    Group presentation

    Group presentation
Each student is required to participate in a group presentation during the course. Groups should consist of 3 individuals on average. Each student will be awarded an equal mark.

    Presentation details
The presentation is meant to build on the readings set for the particular week in question but does not involve a presentation of the articles themselves. Instead, the group is expected to have collected relevant data themselves (in accordance with the task set for that particular week) and to have taken into account the content of the article in so doing. The presentation should be approximately 30 mins in length. You may find the presentation guidelines a help.

All groups are requested to provide me with an overview of their data/ presentation in the week prior to their presentation by attending my office hour.

Playing the role of the critic

Each presentation group is also required to play the role of critic for another group of students in the class. The function of the critics is to give feedback on presentation skills (e.g. making eye-contact with your audience, giving examples, explaining concepts in a clear manner, involving your audience in the presentation, using the overhead projector, ...). Such issues will be discussed at the end of each class.

It is also the responsiblity of the critics to pose a number of questions for discussion following the presentation.

    End of term examination

The end of term examination will take place on 12th February 2003 during class time. It will be based on the readings prescribed for the course and will also involve some questions of application. Further details will be given at a later stage.
